At Least I Won’t Threaten to Kill People

I've got an iPhone 4S on reserve at the Cherry Creek Apple Store tomorrow. Let's see if I actually make it out of the store with a phone tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure if I don't, though, I won't go to the extreme the dude here in Aurora did this week when he threatened to kill the employees and blow up the Best Buy that didn't have a copy of Call of Duty that he supposedly pre-ordered.

I'll probably just cry ('cause that's what I do).

Bah, Humbug!

I'm so sick of Christmas already. I hate to say that, because I really do love the holiday season, but with stores already decked out in trees and wreaths before Halloween was even here was ridiculous. People have their lights up and on. Even my neighbors put out their decorations today while I was at work - a whole yard full of tacky plastic statues. The commercials are in full swing on the television. The hotel we stayed at in Hill City the last week of October had all of their decorations up. I'm seeing Christmas movies in the programming guide. ENOUGH ALREADY!

What used to make the season magical was its brevity. It started Thanksgiving morning when Santa arrived in the Macy's parade, then you had the full onslaught for a solid month. Christmas carols didn't get old because you only heard them for 4 weeks, not almost 3 months. Now, by the time Christmas morning actually arrives, you've had such an overload that you're over it before it begins. I'm not the only one who believes we shouldn't start the celebrating early - I found an article titled "Just Say No to Early Christmas" while surfing the topic.

I wonder if any studies have been done about the effects of too much Christmas on actual holiday sales. I know I'm less inclined to spend money in stores that are pushing Christmas already. I want to see Fall things - turkeys, leaves, pumpkins, scarecrows...not snowmen, Santas and angels.

Happy 76th Birthday, Dad!

My dear old father o' mine had his 76th birthday today. We went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner to celebrate where we got to finish watching the Broncos win over the Raiders. Dad also got his free scoop of ice cream while being sang to by a group of pretty ladies. Dad just loves people singing to him!

We also went off of Daylight Saving time today. I may have mentioned a time or two or three how much I hate this idiotic practice of jacking around with time. While it doesn't take as long to recover in the fall, I'm still going to be a mess for a couple of weeks. Lame.

I started the cutest little crochet pumpkin pie today. It's called Squeeze n' Sniff Pumpkin Pie on a blog called Crafty is Cool. Here's a link to my project page over on Ravelry if anybody is interested. This will adorn my desk at work later in the week. I was really hoping to crank it out today, but I'm having a bit of trouble with the whipped cream on top. My stupid perfectionism getting in the way again, I'm sure. I also got a late start on it because I couldn't find a darned size E crochet hook anywhere in this house and had to run to Jo-Ann's to get one. I know as soon as I finish this, I'll have E hooks coming out of the woodwork.

Chili & Cornbread Muffins

I have been wanting chili and cornbread for a few weeks now, but every time I had planned to make it, something came up. Well, today I finally had the time and the universe didn't throw any monkey wrenches in my plans. Except for having to pick up some more whole milk, I already had all the supplies (like I said, I've been trying to do this for a while):

Except for the chili powder and the bay leaves, everything I used tonight was organic, which made Marcus extremely happy. Who knew you can't find organic chili powder? Weird, huh? Even used grass-finished bison for the meat. YUM! Marcus is feeling a little under the weather and since I can't get him to drink my cough remedy with the vinegar and cayenne pepper, I upped the garlic, cayenne pepper and chili powder a bit.

The corn muffins turned out to be the best ones I've ever made. I used a recipe that I found on the Food Network web site: Honey Cornbread Muffins. These things were so moist. It must be the whole milk. Will definitely be making these again soon.

I'm so glad its Fall, I love being able to make stuff like this for dinner!

Punked by Apple

So, last Friday night Marcus wanted to stop by the Apple Store on the way home from work to purchase a new AppleTV for the bedroom. While we were there, he casually asked the employee ringing up his purchase if they had any of the new iPhones in stock. He was obviously totally expecting her to say no as they have been out of stock everywhere, but she informed him they just got some in. He asked if I wanted one and of course I said yes. We waited for a bit for someone to bring one from the back, but another employee came out and scolded our clerk for trying to sell one before closed. Well, we were there at 8:45 and apparently they stop selling them at 8:30 for inventory purposes. Man, I was soooooo bummed.

The clerk felt bad and told me I could reserve one online and pick it up first thing in the morning. The only problem with that plan was we were going up to HIll City for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary and check out other properties.

*sigh* So close to having a new phone.
