Planet Alignment and Project 365 #10

So, Venus has been very bright in the night sky. A few nights ago, I had gotten off work late and it was super bright. I thought it was Venus, but wasn't 100% sure, so I pulled up my Star Walk app - sure enough it was. I was also surprised to see all the planets relatively close to each other! They have been all week. It's kind of cool. Here's some screen shots I just took. Anyway, once again I wish an iPhone could do justice to night photos, but the last picture is a photo I took from my car before I left work tonight. That's Venus to the left of the Custer flagpole. OK, I'm heading to bed - hopefully going to finish my current cross-stitch WIP. Was hoping the new Supernatural was on The CW app, but no such luck.

I’m Exhaused and Project 365 #9

NaBloPoMo November 2016
I'm exhaused. Between the stupidity from a good chunk of people over the election, the ridiculous practice we continue to perpetrate of messing with the time in the Fall & Spring and that I'm just plain tired, I don't have much to post tonight. In fact, when I got home from work tonight, I sat down to eat my dinner and promptly fell asleep. Since it's almost midnight, all you get in my Project 365 photo of the mountain goats that I pass regularly by Mount Rushmore. You can't see them because the Mama moved in front of them, but she does have 2 younguns between me and the mountain. They are so danged cute.

Presidential Election 2016 & Project 365 #8

NaBloPoMo November 2016
Today the United States elects the 45th President of the United States. As I write this (almost midnight Mountain time), it still hasn't been officially determined who that is, but Trump is closest. I'm shaking my head at the comments I'm reading in my social media feeds. My guy didn't win (Gary Johnson), but the world isn't going to end with either of those two yahoos sitting in the Oval office. Was I happy that this country elected Obama not just once, but twice? No, but my world didn't end and neither will theirs.

Worst Election Season EVER & Project 365 #7

NaBloPoMo November 2016
I don't think I've ever been so frustrated over an election as I am this year's. I know my guy, Gary Johnson, won't win, though that won't stop me from casting my ballot for him. The sucky thing is I really can't stand Clinton or Trump. I cringe when I listen to people defending either of them. How low we have sunk as a nation that this is the best either party can put forward? I really wish there was a Galt's Gulch or someplace where I could flee and be rid of all of this stupidity.

I'm also sitting here tonight trying to figure out how and what/if I'm voting for locally. I've lived here such a short time that I don't really have a sense of what these ballot measures mean for the state. I also don't know any of these candidates.

I've never been so apathetic about voting as I am this year.

Weekend Wrap Up and Project 365 #6

NaBloPoMo November 2016
I'm back in South Dakota and really, really tired.

I accomplished nothing this weekend. The end of Daylight Saving Time is causing its usual wonkiness. I broke my knitting needle, so very little knitting progress. I couldn't manage to face the Denver traffic, so I didn't hit any of the stores on my agenda. I was going to grout the fireplace tiles at Homestead South and touch up some paint and I have some graphic design work to do for Marcus and except for getting some Micron pens, didn't do any of that.

I got a text from United airlines that my flight was going to be delayed, so I was dawdling getting to the airport. Then I get a notification en route that it's back on time. Luckily, security wait was only 20 minutes, so I still made it to gate on time.

Had a bunch of things I was going do do once I got home, but I'm spent.

It's been weird in that it hadn't really hit me that my father died. I knew he had and I was dealing with his affairs, but since I only saw him once a month, it wasn't concrete. Once I was at the service, though, it was real. Friday was the first that I really let myself cry and grieve. Today also would've been his 81st birthday. I was struggling with plans since I last saw him on my birthday on how I was going to get down here to visit him on his birthday. It struck me this morning as sadly ironic that here I was in Denver as I had hoped, but not for the reason.

Ludicrous Airline Fares & Project 365 #5

NaBloPoMo November 2016
I got the text message a couple of hours ago that I could check in for tomorrow's flight back to Rapid City. I needed to take T out for his final walk of the evening, so I just now did the check in. Flights between Denver and Rapid City are ridiculously expensive anyway. I'm not going to disclose how much I blew on this particular weekend, but it is money I'd much rather have spent on something cool, but I digress. As I was checking in, I clicked to see how many available seats were still on my flight and there is only a couple. I went to the United page to see how much these last seats were. See below (I'm taking the 7:50pm flight). Yes, that's right...$1358 for a 45 minute flight for the last First Class ticket! That fare was the $435 when I booked my seats. Interested to see if anyone is actually sitting in that seat when I board tomorrow. Really wish the airport would admit there's a huge problem here, but they won't.

It's been some crazy weather lately. I saw roses blooming over by the tennis court. I'll go try to snap a picture tomorrow before I head back to Rapid City. We decided to take Mr. T for the walk around Bible Park in Denver at our old stomping grounds from the suckpartment days (Quebec/Yale). It was beautiful weather today. Certainly not first week of November weather, but I'm digging it.

My Father’s Honors Ceremony & Project 365 #4

NaBloPoMo November 2016
Today was my father's Military Funeral Honors Ceremony and burial at Fort Logan. I've been pretty strong though everything up to this point. I knew he didn't have much time left when I last saw him on my birthday in September. I've been expecting it for quite a while and was even a little glad when I got the call that he had passed as it meant he was no longer suffering. Sitting at the ceremony, though, I lost it when they started playing taps. As the next of kin, I also was presented with his flag. That was tough. I really am in awe of the service people who can perform that ceremony with dignity when those in attendance are grieving.

I'll probably go out tomorrow and visit the actual grave. He was to be buried by 4pm, but traffic in Denver sucks so bad and I was so exhausted, I couldn't face going back over today.

I didn't want to take many photos and be disrespectful, but I did take this one with the two servicemen taking the urn and flag from the car to the shelter where the ceremony was to be performed.

Fly to Denver and Project 365 #2 & #3

NaBloPoMo November 2016
I was up early to get to work early and get out of town on time, so frankly I'm exhausted. Nothing major happened on the trip from Rapid City to Denver except that the TSA bitches made me throw out my almost empty toothpaste tube. Figured it would be ok since it was almost empty, but they go by oz. marking on tube I guess, not is what is actually in it. Denver didn't make me toss the very same tube last time I flew. Oh, well.

About all I can muster today is Project 365 photos and I'm hitting the hay.

Here's the Chocoholic fabric that arrived Wednesday that I ordered from Polstitches Designs to do Joan Elliott's Angel of Cross Stitch pattern:
