I was on
Ravelry today and found this pattern for an awesome pair of
Tux (the Linux Penguin) Mittens. How cool are these? I wish Marcus wore mittens (I'd make him a pair), but I think I'll just make them for me.

I've been thinking about my mother a lot lately. It started (not surprisingly) while I was in the hospital. I admit that I've had a nagging fear in the back of my mind that I'll die early like mom did (she was in her early 50s). Even my grandmother was not that old when she passed. True, I don't smoke and am not diabetic, but still that fear. Being in the hospital was the wakeup call that I need to take better care of myself. It was embarrassing that two nurses had to help move me after surgery because I was too heavy. I'm turning 42 next month and I would like to have way more than a decade left to enjoy my life.
While Dad and I were walking back to the car after the Stitch N' Pitch ballgame Saturday, I got to thinking about my mother again and got a little sad.
My mother hated knitting, but she could crochet up a storm. She also was really starting to get into computers. She would have so dug going to yarn shops, attending knitting groups and surfing around on
Ravelry. I wish she was still here so I could share all this stuff with her. Heck, with circular needles, maybe she would have even given knitting another go.

As I was cruising around the web this evening, I came across the coolest cake creation:
A Knitting Basket Cake. One day I'm going to have to take a cake decorating class and give something like that a try.

Heh, now I know why I didn't want to go to work yesterday. My intuition must have been warning me that the chick I am having issues with decided to show for a couple of hours. Yeah, she's the last person I want to see on a day I volunteer to do extra work. I had a relatively peaceful 6 hour shift today, though. A lot of my filing in the Archive Room is now caught up.
Depending on how this week goes, I'm going to try to take the whole weekend off next weekend. I have much to do and would really like to have two whole days away from work. Of course, if I don't put any OT in during the week and the weekend is the only time I can get some extra hours, I'll probably take them.
I stopped by the Great American Quilt Factory and found my final piece of fabric I need. w00t! Now I just need to clean up the mess I've made recently in my craft room and get quilting!
When is enough enough? I saw an ad in a magazine today for the new
Alvin and the Chipmunks movie. Um, how about Hollywood get off their collective asses and come up with an original move idea. I'm so sick of old stuff being regurgitated. Seriously.
I watched a movie called Surf's Up last night. It was ok, but definitely not one of the better animated movies I've ever seen. I know they were trying to do it in a documentary style, but it was a bad documentary style. I wasn't impressed.

I really don't know what possessed me to do it. Maybe it was the stressful work day I had today. Maybe it's that urge I get to go shopping when I'm feeling blue. Whatever it was, I stopped in at a quilting store on my way home from work. Just to see what new fabrics were out. I was just going to look since I hadn't been in a while. I then gave in and I bought a pattern and a few fat quarters thinking I'll whip up a new table runner before Thanksgiving dinner in a little over a week. On my way home, the buyer's remorse set in. What the hell was I thinking? I don't have time to get my fall theme for my blog finished and I think I'm going to "whip up" a table runner. Hahahahahahahahahahahaha! Whew, Ok, I'm feeling a bit better having got that out. But, seriously? What was I thinking?
