I was just reading the message boards for Gateway HS at classmates.com. I'm amazed at the people who, 18 years after graduation, are still stuck in the past. I recognize some of the names I read, but I couldn't pick any of these people out in a crowd.
Mary, a girl who was my best friend until high school, is really stuck there. She lives in South Aurora and I used to run into her alot when I worked on that side of town. To talk to her, you'd think her life ended when we all graduated. Actually, she never went through graduation. Maybe that's why she can't let all of it go. She married some military guy and shipped off to another state two weeks before graduation. She became a baby factory. I think she's got like 5 or 6 kids now and they're all kind of bratty. That's one of the reasons when she wanted to get together that I blew her off. After the 10th reunion in '94 (that I refused to go to), she got all nostalgic and wanted to get back with all her old school buddies. She doesn't realize that we have absolutely nothing in common. The only good thing about all the moving around Marcus and I did during that time was she couldn't keep up with where I was. I know that's kind of mean, but I told her once that I really didn't care to reminisce about high school That was sooooo long ago and those people are complete strangers.
