BOOM!

Man, there was the biggest sonic boom this afternoon! It was kind of cool. It was caused by a jet out at Buckley AFB. I hadn't heard one of those since I was a little kid. I was in the office at work and I thought someone had run into the building. I guess windows actually broke around 72nd & Federal.

Northeastern Power Outage

OK, so mother nature decided she was bored and decided to shake things up today in the New York area. The Niagra Falls power grid that supplies power to New York, Detroit, Cleveland, parts of Canada, etc. shut down this afternoon. It's been really hot there and an awful lot of people live in that area. Am I the only one who didn't automatically jump to the conclusion that it was a terrorist act? Nobody was negligent, these things happen from time to time. The story right now is that it was a result of a lightening strike.

Farmer’s Market Tragedy

I was just watching "Passions" on my Dish (we've got the East/West coast packages) and the program was interrupted by news of a car that had plowed through a Santa Monica, CA farmer's market. Several people were killed, many more injured. An elderly man driving a maroon car was at fault. Some witnesses think he was having a heart attack. Others say the man seemed fine. They just interviewed the police chief Butts and he said it was the worst accident he'd seen in 30 years. He said the most horrific part was a crushed two-year-old child. How tragic. I really hope this wasn't intentional.

Saddam Statue Tumbles

I have purposely not been writing much about the Iraq war here, but I just had to make a note about this. I had tears in my eyes today watching the Iraqi civilians tearing down the Saddam statue in Baghdad.
