It All Makes Sense Now

Well, I now know why I didn’t get hired at that scrapbook store I applied at before Christmas. I got a “Going Out of Business Sale” postcard in the mail a couple of days ago. I should feel sad about that like I am about All My Memories closing two of its three stores in the Denver area this month, but I’m not. I swore that if I wasn’t hired, I’d never shop there again. I didn’t think it would be under these circumstances. Oh, well. I guess either scrapbooking is not as big a fad as it once was, or these stores can’t compete with the likes of Archiver’s.

Goodnight Johnny

Current mood: bearmood — sad sad
Former “Tonight Show” host Johnny Carson died on Sunday (Jan. 23). He was 79 and had suffered from emphysema. I remember when I was little that I thought my dad and Johnny Carson were brothers. They looked alot alike and my dad is funny, too. My favorite segments were when he was “Carnac the Magnificent” and any of the ones where there were animals. I never watched the show much after he left. I prefer Letterman to Leno.

What’s All The Fuss About Flu Shots?

Current mood: bearmood — curious confused
I don't understand all the uproar about the "flu shot shortage" in this country. It is bad enough that people are brainwashed into believing that they're going to die from the flu if they don't get a shot. I've never had a shot and rarely get the flu. I get other stuff, like colds, strep, upper respiratory infections...hardly ever the flu. If people would do the stuff they're supposed to, like take vitamin C, wash hands with soap, eat well, cover mouths when coughing and staying home and getting well if they do have the flu, the flu epidemics are really nothing to worry about. In fact, I bet worrying over the lack of flu shots lowers your resistance so that becoming sick is more likely. Also, how about the fact that there are numerous strains of the flu and a single shot can't get them all? How many people really die from flu every year as opposed to other things, like car crashes, etc.? I'm really curious about that. And since when does something like this need to be a political issue? Like Kerry can guarantee that every American will get a flu shot if he's president. Loser! I'm sick of every newscast having stories about who's got shots and how little there is to go around. It's time to get a grip, people!

Call Me Insensitive, But…

Current mood: bearmood —angry angry
This really pisses me off, but not why you might think. I pass by the area at least once every day and seeing this "memorial" makes my blood boil. I can totally understand why people put up roadside memorials for victims of accidents or events beyond their control--drunk drivers, accidental shootings, terrorist attacks. This was none of those things. This was a criminal that was caught and decided to charge officers rather than be a man and be arrested peacefully. He brought this whole thing on himself.
"I want answers," said Maria Verduzco, Castellon's mother. "I believe they should have a report or something to understand why they gunned down my son the way they did."
Here's an answer for you: your son was an ass, he stole someone else's property and used it to endanger other people's lives, he had absolutely no respect for people, including you. When you attack cops, you get killed. What if one of the cars he was ramming on I-225 lost control and people inside died? How would you feel about your beloved son then? Take your stupid memorial and put it on your son's grave site, but get the damned thing off of the public street.

The thing that also infuriated me is that Dad told me this morning that people were picketing there with anti-police signs the other day. I hope there are no officers available to help them the next time they need them.

Ok, I need to get to work, but I needed to get that off my chest.
