Air Tanker Crash Photos

I meant to post this earlier, but I haven't had the time. There is a slideshow on the Rocky Mountain News' website showing photos of the air-tanker that crashed last Thursday (July 18) while trying to help put out the Big Elk Fire near Lyons.

In other news, would the press shut the hell up about the stock market already? Maybe people would have more confidence in it if you guys weren't pounding into their brains every minute of the day how terrible things are and how everyone is screwed.

It’s HOT

When I went to the bank today about 4 p.m., the bank sign said it was 109°F! ICK! At least tomorrow is supposed the be the last day of the heat wave and a cold front is supposed to move in on Wednesday. I sure hope so.

RMN Front Page Controversy

Since I no longer get the paper and I haven't been up on current events all week, a friend of mine passed along this little tidbit to me on which I just had to comment. The Rocky Mountain News published a picture of a man sitting among the burned rubble of his home with one of his boys peeking out of his shorts. They claim it's a shadow. Shadow from what? I guess this paper was a hot seller. It's even being sold on eBay. Too funny.

Hayman Fire

Oh, I almost forgot something I wanted to mention:

DENVER IS NOT ON FIRE!!

I'm so sick of the national news making it seem like the whole city is burning. This map shows where the fire is. It's not even burning any part of the Denver Metro area. There have been recent fires a lot closer than this one. Yes, it's the largest fire in recorded state history. Yes, it's a terrible tragedy that was caused by dumbasses. Yes, this is going to cause many problems in the future. No, there's not more that the firefighters can do than they're already doing. Get a grip, people. Not only do I want to string the person(s) responsible for this up by the thumbs, I'd like to do the same to journalists who need to sensationalize stories rather than simply reporting facts.

The Drought Is Bad When…

A bear was found in Bennett today, about 12 miles west of where I live. You know things are bad if a poor bear wandered way out here looking for food. This is DEFINITELY NOT bear country out here. I'm seeing a lot of deer around this year, too, especially dead on the highway. It's so sad.
