Screwed Up Priorities

I'm becoming so anti-government lately. Has every generation had their major problems or are we just in an incredibly sucky period right now? Why is it more important to fight gay marriage than the flood of illegals in this country? Why is it more important to worry about a tiny little country half a world away than about what is going on within our own borders? Taxes are out of control, gas prices are out of control, our justice system is out of control. Movements are underway to make the US/Mexico/Canada a single entity with one currency like the European Union. Our middle class is dwindling, the ranks of the "poor" are growing and the elite are getting richer and more powerful. Neither party will fix any of this because they are BOTH part of the problem. Will we see another civil war in my lifetime? I'm starting to think so. I'm seeing the scenario in Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" unfolding before my very eyes. It scared me.

I spoke with the recruiter at Marcus' old company today. They are hiring in the advertising department there. I guess my resume makes me look like a hiring risk. I've been in the field a year, but I was only at one job for 7 months (um, they went out of business) and at this job five months. Yes, I made a mistake in accepting a job 50 miles from my house. I was promised car pooling. That fizzled and I can't keep driving 100 miles round trip five days a week just to make my resume look better. There is a slim chance I may still get an interview (because they liked Marcus so much there), but I'm not counting on it. I guess this explains why I don't hear anything back from anybody when my resume goes out.

Misplaced Presidential Priorities

Once again President Bush is giving me one more reason to be totally pissed at how he's running his presidency. Yesterday he asked congress for $7.1 Billion to prepare for the minute chance of an Avian Flu Pandemic. A disease that has killed only 120 people in the whole freakin' world so far. They're all foaming at the mouth for a world-wide diaster. Well, we saw how well the government handled a real disaster when hurrican Katrina hit. They want to stockpile enough vaccine for every American. Last I heard, health people were scrambling to create a vaccine. Does anybody remember last year's flu vaccine shortage? We were all going to get the flu since we hadn't been vaccinated and we were all going to die! Well, I didn't get the flu, nor did I or anyone I know die.

How about being worried about a real health scare? Illegal Mexicans are bringing all sorts of disease into the country with them:
...many illegal aliens harbor fatal diseases that American medicine fought and vanquished long ago, such as drug-resistant tuberculosis, malaria, leprosy, plague, polio, dengue, and Chagas disease.
If you're really so worried about the health of Americans, stop the flow of illegals into this country.

All I’m Going To Say…

I hope all you morons who bought into the hype/fear-mongering/greed and voted for Referendum C yesterday are pleased with yourselves when all that crap the politicians promised you never comes to pass. When are you people going to wake up and realize the government is at the root of most of our problems, not the salvation? I'm thoroughly disgusted with the lot of you.

Absolutely No Class

To the protesters at today's Bush Inaguration:

SHAME ON YOU!

You hate President Bush: fine.
You hate his policies: fine.
You hate America: fine.

I know it is your right to protest, but at a dignified, honorable tradition such as a presidential inauguration, show some class and don't attend. All you managed to do was look like a bunch of disrespectful, spoiled, ungrateful idiots (especially the morons that put Hitler moustaches on Bush photos).

Get Over It, Already

I wasn't going to mention anything about this, but today I've reached my breaking point.

I was really hoping that once the election was over, I could get back to reading the blogs of people I normally like without having to wade through the hate and the Bush bashing. I'm starting to resent people like myself who voted for Bush being called stupid, closed minded, you name it. I thought the great thing about this country was that we were allowed to have differing opinions. Do I have to remind everybody that one man will not make or break this country? The founding fathers set up the whole checks/balances thing expressly so that this was the case. I was disappointed as hell that Bill Clinton was elected to not one, but two terms. Did I wail about how the United States was doomed or that people who voted for him were going to hell? NO! I knew I had cast my vote and at that particular time, my choice wasn't what the majority wanted. I sighed and got on with living my life. Our country didn't suffer in the grand scheme of things because of his being in office, either.

The great thing about being an American that we don't have dictators or kings. If we don't like how things are going, we get another chance to change things in four years. Even if you don't like the current president or administration, living in the U.S. is not too damn bad. I'm sick of the people saying they're leaving the country if ______ is elected. Well, leave already. You'll find the grass isn't greener, blah, blah, blah. I wish people would put as much energy into their personal lives and into their communities as they are into spewing hate toward people on the conservative side of the aisle.

All I know is, come next week, some reads on my blogroll might have to be dumped.
