I checked out the weather forecast before bed last night. I knew a cold front was coming in and we'd be nowhere near yesterday's mid-60 temps, but I opened my door to leave for work this morning to snow! The weathercasters on the radio were, "Oops, we totally didn't see that coming." No shit, Sherlock. Of course, it also happens to be the same day I left my phone at work the day previously, so I couldn't even call to say I'd be late. Since nobody expecting it nor was ready for it, the streets were yucky. Sheer ice in some spots. As per typical Colorado, it warmed up enough that the drive was absolutely no problem for Marcus a couple of hours later.
Every year I try to find an ornament that signifies something special that happened the previous year. I haven't been able to do it due to finances the last couple of years, but I hit the Hallmark store today to see what I could get for this year. I didn't find squat. I was thinking something to do with knitting since I finally learned how. No dice. Nothing really signified a full time with benefits job. Other than that, no major milestones happened this year. Well, except for having to put our beloved Skippy down, but who wants an ornament to remember that?
I have noticed a lot of ornaments from various manufacturers out for A Christmas Story this year. I thought maybe it was a 25th anniversary thing or something, but according to IMDB, the movie came out in 1983.

I was over reading
Electric Venom and Kate had a bit of interesting trivia that I did not know: Oingo Boingo was on
The Gong Show!
I was a huge fan of the group in the '80s. I mean, c'mon, I'm a child of the '80s. I danced in the .32 bars to "Goodbye, Goodbye" and "Dead Man's Party." Who didn't love "Weird Science?" I'm also a big fan of Danny Elfman's compositional style. I love the soundtracks he did for
Beetlejuice,
Batman Returns, not to mention "The Simpsons Theme" from the TV show.
It was their late '70s incarnation, known as
The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, that appeared on the show. Check out the footage from The Gong Show in the extended. You certainly can't mistake that it is Danny Elfman with that flaming red hair.

Wow, it just hit me as I was visiting a few sites in my blogroll how long it has been since I've been to some of them. And my feeds...forget about it! It's been good that I've been trying to occupy my time with other activities besides those related to the Internet, but I still want to know what's going on with those writers online that I like reading. Must try to find a healthy balance.

I felt out of sorts all day and even though I could've stayed at work, I opted to go home at my regularly scheduled time. By the time I got home, I was wiped. As I sat trying to read emails and catch up on forums, I suddenly got very cold and had to go curl up in bed. After three hours of sleep, I feel a little better. I hope it is just exhaustion or fatigue and not me trying to break down in sickness. Isn't it odd that one can be exhausted from a desk type job? Except for the girl at work that I wish I could ball gag, it's not overly stressful or physically demanding. I'd be doing the same danged thing if I was at home (typing on a keyboard), so it's weird that I get so darned tired.
On a sad note, there is no more of my yummy cheesecake left. The last piece went into Marcus' belly. No more until Christmas. Hey, at least it was enjoyed by all that partook. LOL
I was just pondering how much better I'm feeling about this holiday season than the last two years. For once in a loooong time I am not underemployed. I don't have to worry about whether a jerkwad pizza owner is going to not give bonuses and therefor not have present money. I don't have to worry about the slack in sales as people buy holiday stuff or them being cheapskate tippers because they've overspent their budgets. It's a bizarre and wonderful feeling to know that I can buy gifts because I'm actually making extra money due to OT.

Heh, now I know why I didn't want to go to work yesterday. My intuition must have been warning me that the chick I am having issues with decided to show for a couple of hours. Yeah, she's the last person I want to see on a day I volunteer to do extra work. I had a relatively peaceful 6 hour shift today, though. A lot of my filing in the Archive Room is now caught up.
Depending on how this week goes, I'm going to try to take the whole weekend off next weekend. I have much to do and would really like to have two whole days away from work. Of course, if I don't put any OT in during the week and the weekend is the only time I can get some extra hours, I'll probably take them.
I stopped by the Great American Quilt Factory and found my final piece of fabric I need. w00t! Now I just need to clean up the mess I've made recently in my craft room and get quilting!
When is enough enough? I saw an ad in a magazine today for the new
Alvin and the Chipmunks movie. Um, how about Hollywood get off their collective asses and come up with an original move idea. I'm so sick of old stuff being regurgitated. Seriously.
I watched a movie called Surf's Up last night. It was ok, but definitely not one of the better animated movies I've ever seen. I know they were trying to do it in a documentary style, but it was a bad documentary style. I wasn't impressed.
