Can You Tell the Difference?

For my Font Freak Friends:

Marcus sent me a link to a quiz: So you think you can tell Arial from Helvetica?

I got 19/20. The one I missed was obvious after the fact. D'oh! How well did you do?

I also just found an awesome shirt: I'll Use Arial When Helvetica Freezes Over.

Enough!

People, just like Comic Sans before it, STOP USING PAPYRUS as the font on freaking everything. It used to have a place and your overuse and misuse of it has ruined it for me.

Thank you...that is all.

Death to Comic Sans

Any designer who has been around a while hates certain fonts because of their overuse and their inappropriate use. One of these among the design community is Comic Sans. In fact, I had a CSR last week suggest that as a font I should use for her client's cover. I gently had to steer her away from that particular font. That's why this Achewood comic is so darned funny. Fonts Rock, but Some Font Sites Suck

I love fonts! Much to Marcus' dismay (fonts are the bane of his existence—he thinks the world would do just fine with Helvetica, Arial, Courier, Times New Roman and maybe Garamond), fonts are what designers need to make the world a more interesting place. Unfortunately, fonts are expensive to buy. That's why I love it when I find legitimate sites where I can download free fonts and free dingbats. You have to be careful, though. Most of them anymore redirect you to places with malware and viruses.

I had a really cool website linked here that was once a paid post that I kept because I wanted to remember to go there to buy fonts, but since they care about Google page ranking, they asked me to remove the link. I guess when you care more about Google and less about actually selling things to customers, I will forget you exist. I'll find my fonts at sites that didn't try to game the system.

Font: Ravie

I am always coming across fonts that I want to purchase in the future (when I have money), but I'm always losing the scraps of paper that I write them on or forgetting what they look like and why I wanted them. Today I am making a new category here specifically with the intent of organizing my font desires. Sorry, it's just for me. I'll try to write a real post later this evening.

First up:

RAVIE

I came across this font when I was working at the screen printer.
