It’s Office Night

For reasons I can't go into here, I'm not at work yet. I'm really not wanting to go there anymore. I think I'm allergic to the incense he must burn or something. Either that, or there's mold/mildew in the basement where we work. I expressed my frustration with working there to the old teacher that got me the job. She doesn't blame me one bit for not wanting to stay. I did tell her I will stick it out until the publication goes to print so as not to get her in a bind. It turns out that is not until the first Friday in October. So, a little over two weeks away. I was originally told Sept. 22, then the last week of September. Nobody there can get their stories straight. Grrr.

I need help from all of you out there. My resume was sent to a screen printer on Monday. I really, REALLY want to work there. It's very close to I-70 so on a good day, the drive will be less than a half hour. I sent a follow-up email on Tuesday with some samples of my work. Now, I just need to be called in for an interview. That's where you guys come in: Concentrate all of the positive energy and thoughts/prayers you can spare my way for me to get this job. Thanks in advance for your help!

I got an email from a place that the placement woman had sent my resume to last week:
Thank you for responding to the production artist position at xxxxxxxxxxxx. We received your resume and will be contacting you within the next few weeks to let you know what further action we would like to take. We appreciate your interest and look forward to speaking with you soon.
Um, ok. The next few weeks? How long do you expect me to stay underemployed? This is so stupid. The holidays are coming up , people. My unemployment checks will run out sooner than later. I want to work NOW!

At least I've got the season premieres of The Office and CSI tonight. I can't wait for this evening.

I’m Gonna Be Screwed

Well, I got my first paycheck from the new job today. It turns out I'm not an employee, (see, you shouldn't assume anything) but a contractor. Wish that had been explained up front. So, no taxes paid on my behalf and I'm gonna be fucked at the end of the year. Last I checked, even contractors around here made more than $12/hr. Top that off with the frustration I was feeling of trying to talk to the client whose menu they were having me do that doesn't really speak English. Yeah, not worth what they're paying.

Stupid me. Like I said, once this magazine of theirs goes to press, I'm done. I'd almost go back to my old job over this one (if they'd move to Castle Rock).

What a Waste of Time

I just got back from an appointment I had with the placement person at my old school. She claimed to have a whole slew of new opportunities. Fact was, there was only one job that fit what I was looking for and I had already seen that on Monster. It's a production artist position that pays $8/hr. You know, McDonald's employees make about that. I was making that wage as a phone person at a pizza place three years ago. So glad I wasted money on getting an education.

I’ve Gotta End It

So, I drove over to the place where I'm working only to find nobody there to let me in. This whole situation is stupid. I realized after the second day I didn't want to work there. I really need to talk to the owner and get out of this. I don't need a stupid workplace on top of everything else going on right now.

It’s the Wrong Job When

So, you know you're not working at the right place when you call in after three days on the job. *sigh* Normally, I would rant about why this job is not for me, but I'll just say that it's not working out and leave it at that.

I so badly want to find something bearable to do everyday. I feel like that guy in Office Space--I don't think sitting in front of a computer 8+ hours a day is for me. I really prefer having computers and web stuff as a hobby, not a job. I joked with Marcus that I would get a job in construction if it wasn't for the fact that I'd probably be in the ER on the very first day! LOL That's one reason why I kept at pizza for so long...as a driver, you're out on the road most of the time, not cooped up somewhere. That's why managing pizza or working inside didn't work. I just couldn't stand being in the same place doing the same thing over and over for that long. I need a job where I can make stuff or something, but not like an assembly line. I think that's why I liked the part of my merchandiser job I had at AutoZone. I loved resetting planograms. Too bad jobs like that don't pay squat.
