Always the last to jump on the bandwagon, that's me. But, hey, I've been reading other people's Friday Fives for weeks now and I was feeling kind of left out. I know, I know, it's not even Friday, but better late than never, eh?
1. What was your first job?
I used to work the summers while I was in college as a band camp counselor in Colorado Springs. My first "real" job was delivering pizzas for Blackjack when I got out of college. It was supposed to be
temporary until I found a teaching position. Sadly, eleven years later I'm still working for the same company. (I have had other jobs in the meantime, though. I'm not that much of a loser! )
2. How old were you when you had your first kiss?
I was sixteen. The guy kissed so hard he made my lips puff up! I didn't have the heart to tell him it hurt so he'd stop. I told everybody I practiced my clarinet too much that weekend. LOL
3. What was your first car? What happened to it?
My first car was a 1973 gold Ford Pinto station wagon. It was like the unofficial band car. I used to cram 8 or 9 people plus instruments in it everyday. I drove it until it fell apart. I miss that car.
4. What was your first concert?
I saw Barry Manilow (with my friend Kelly who was a fanatic) at McNichols Sports Arena in 1983.
5. How do you plan to spend your weekend?
Sadly, working. I'm going to try and get the bird cages cleaned and get the Christmas tree down, though. How's that for fun?

Man, the highways were a mess on the way to town this morning. There were lots of tracks in the median from cars that went off the road. I saw a new truck munched on the side of the road by Strasburg. Apparently, the U-Haul trailer it was towing fishtailed and spun the dude around 180 ° before he slid off into the ditch. Then a couple of miles west of Bennett there was a multi-vehicle rollover accident. The highway was slicker than you-know-what along there. Most of the way after that was solid fog until I hit Aurora. Scary. It sounded like the worst of the storm hit North of the metro area, though, according to the accidents they were reporting on the radio. Most of these accidents wouldn't happen if people would just slow down a little. People also panic when they start to slide and overcorrect. Oh, well.
Well, I went to CollegeAmerica today and picked up my diploma. It's been ready for a few weeks but I've just been dreading going there to get it. I wanted it mailed to me, but Nancy claimed they don't mail them unless its absolutely necessary. I still have such bitter feelings over what a waste of money and time that place was. The stupid placement chick only sends my resume to jobs that the stupid school nowhere near prepared me for. She seems to think that I'm ready to be the sole system administrator for an entire company. I refuse to waste the time of any company to follow up on the resumes she sends out like that. I picked up on of the employment newspapers a couple of days ago and found a new CollegeAmerica ad. What a joke. They claim that you could be a web designer or a Web Site Administrator or an Internet Specialist (whatever that is). They're still claiming they have business degrees--nevermind that the business department is practically nonexistent. I know I have a lot more that I have to learn and I would really like to pursue something like animation or graphics, but I was so burned that I'm afraid of going to a school to learn these things.

Yay, I can actually post on Blogger today. I finally put up the winter template I've been working on. I had it finished two days ago, but when I went to upload it, I got a "working on template server" message. I haven't been able to publish posts the last two days, either. I've got to get my butt in gear and find another webhost--one that doesn't charge a fortune but is quasi-reliable and allows cgi scripts. Any ideas? Email me, please!!!
I'm supposed to be at work, but I'm waiting for the highways to clear out a bit. My car is warming up as I speak. That is one thing I'm going to miss about this job. I can do it whenever I darn well please. I wish I could just call in, but I already didn't make dough the day before yesterday. There was a sum total of 5 batches between the two stores, so I just left. No point in dirtying all the equipment for such a small amount. So, I spent the afternoon with my Dad instead.
Dave Thomas, founder of Wendy's, died on January 8th. He was cool. His restaurants will probably go to hell now, like how WalMart went into the dump after Sam Walton died. AutoZone also went down the tubes after the founder stepped down. Blackjack Pizza is going down the tubes since the founder handed over control to others. Notice a theme?
Well, the car is probably warmed up. I don't want to go today because I really can't stand either of the opening managers, but I had better get going...... :(
