iSight

My newest impulse purchase is an Apple iSight. I don't know what possessed me except that I've always wanted a webcam of some sort and Marcus got one, so...

Now I just need to figure out how to use the darned thing. The guys at The Apple Store had two of them set up to chat across the store. They even had them configured to import video into iMovie (with some additional software). Too cool. I guess the days of real-time video conferencing are here!

The New Apple Stuff

Current mood: excitted bear excited
I was just watching part of Steve Job's WWDC keynote that he gave yesterday. I am so excited about he newest version of OS X that will be released by year's end called Panther. iChat AV seems like it's going to be totally awesome. I guess I'll finally invest in the new iSight camera they've developed (when I get some more income). The coolest thing is the new G5. I'm not too thrilled with the case they've developed, but hey, looks aren't everything. This machine has got some POWER! It's fast and it can handle up to 8 GB of ram. Yes, 8 GIGS! The top model comes with dual 2-GHz 64-bit processors. Schweet!

Oh, Nooooooo!

Now I've done it. I purchased "The Sims Unleashed" for my Apple G4 this past weekend. I'm addicted again.

Wireless Pain in my Butt

I have a love/hate relationship with technology.

A couple of months ago, Marcus bought an Apple AirPort basestation. He bought me a SMC wireless card for my Sony Vaio. After much aggravation and web-searching, we discovered that support for my current OS installation (Win 2000) totally sucked. Basically, it wasn't going to work, so he returned the card. I told him not to worry about getting me another one right away.

Well, now that I've seen Marcus working on his laptop from all over the house and after he was surfing from outside yesterday, I decided I wanted to try again. We went to CompUsa and we chose a Belkin card this time. ARGH!!! I swear, what a pain. Marcus got it all set up and again, it wouldn't work like it was supposed to. We fiddled with the damn thing for four hours. It actually worked for a sum total of two minutes. I ended up having to set a static IP address on my laptop because it wouldn't get one through DHCP. While in the process of turning off my Zone Alarm, it decided it didn't want to work anymore. *sigh* I tried reinstalling, rebooting, reconfiguring, etc. Nothing. This morning, though, I boot up and it's working again. In fact, I'm on the web via the card right now. I'll give it most of the afternoon to see if it behaves itself or it is going back to the store, too. If it does crap out, I'll give the Linksys card a try. If that doesn't work, I'm done. I'll just be tethered to the network until I can afford to get myself an Apple Powerbook.

I do need a new battery for the old laptop. My current one doesn't hold a charge for more than a half hour. I had no idea they were so expensive! Even on eBay, I'll have to drop $100. That's a purchase that will have to wait. Especially since I will have to get my car repaired soon. One of my CV joints started clicking this weekend. Yippee.

I never watch the MTV movie awards because I usually find the behaviour boorish. Our friend Mike was relating to us the opening sequence yesterday, so I set the PVR to get it. It was pretty funny. It was this whole Matrix takeoff thing with show hosts Justin Timberlake and Seann William Scott. Since MTV will show this over and over and over and over, check it out.

My Name is LaDonna and I’m a Geek…

Man, I am a geek. Here I am, surfing the Internet, checking email, writing in my online journal, looking up addresses in the Qwestdex "yellow pages" on my Windows box while watching a dvd I rented online from Netflix on my Apple G4. Yeah, I'm a geek allright.
