Stupid Cannisters

While wiping down my kitchen counter this evening, I came to the sad realization that I need to purchase new flour/sugar/tea cannisters. They are made of metal and the bottoms have become rusty and are now staining my counters. I've had the same set since my first college apartment, so that must mean I got them in 1986 maybe? I think 21 years for a $20 set of cannisters was a pretty good run. I guess I need to stop at Linens 'N' Things or a similar store sometime soon and procure new ones, preferably glass or ceramic. It's time.

For the record, I love that product CLR. Took the rust stains right out.

Dick Doodles

My friend Nina sent me a link today to this video. Since it is adult content, I put it in the extended.

We’re In for a Roller Coaster Ride

Wow, big news at work today and I'm not sure if it is good or bad. The guy who is our prepress department technical guy (who has been more or less mentoring me) gave his two weeks notice. I knew he had been interviewing with another company, but since it had been awhile since he had heard anything from them, I figured they went with someone else. The last week or so, he's been teaching me lots of tech and server stuff and I remarked to Marcus that it was almost as if he was preparing to leave. On Monday, he started sorting through his stuff and began taking his personal books and stuff home. Well, today he got his offer phone call and he gave his notice. What sucks is that the girl they hired to be his backup (I think she started a couple of weeks after I) is totally unqualified for his position. I mean, she knows how to be a prepress operator and is a trained designer, but as far as filling this guy's shoes, she just doesn't have it. What's going to suck is we are coming up on our busy period right before the holidays. Not really the best time to be in this boat. Oh, well. We'll just have to take it one day at a time and muddle through. It's going to be interesting.

Thoughts On Perfectionism

I've really been pondering that Flylady email I referenced earlier about sidetracked people being perfectionists. I knew I was a perfectionist (it's Virgo by nature), but I didn't realize that one of the reasons I get so sidetracked and off task is because of it.

The point really hit me when I was at work today while cleaning and labeling the DVD cases that store the data backups I do everyday. After I spent five minutes trying to get hard tape residue off of a DVD case when there were piles of stuff everywhere that I needed to file, the point of it hit me. I looked at the stack of DVD cases I had in front of me and realized about 80% of them had this same residue on them. Was I really going to expend that much energy on something like that when the residue had no effect whatsoever on the case's ability to hold a burned DVD. Really, who cares about a little bit of tape residue on the DVD case? I'm sure I am the only one who even noticed it.

It was hard, but I let it go. I'm sure that every time I see one in the rack, I'm going to be tempted to try to clean it, but I must resist.

Returning 24

I just noticed this morning that I've had the first disc of season 3 of 24 that I rented from Netflix in my possession since November 1st of 2006. I'd say chances are pretty good that after 10½ months, despite several attempts to do so, I'm never going to watch it. It's going back today.
