Dreading It

Current mood: bearmood — gloomy gloomy
I'm actually dreading going back to school today. Not because I really don't want to take this class, but knowing that I can't put my best forward because of my financial situation is really killing my enthusiasm. This sucks. I really didn't want this to be a class that I just "got through" to get a grade. Argh!

It seemed to be sad news for Marcus this weekend when Britney Spears got married. The marriage is being annulled today, so I guess the guy can still dream.

Well, all playoff hopes (and dreams of making money from people ordering lots of pizza for the games) are dashed due to the total beating given the Broncos yesterday by the Colts that eliminated Denver from the postseason. I had a feeling that the Colts were going to play hard and sitting many of the starting players out last week would steal from the winning momentum the team had built. Oh, well. There is always next year.

Something has been bothering me for a bit and I might as well post it before I forget. What happens to all the "in" Christmas decorations every year? Many years ago, everyone seemed to have lighted-up plastic decorations: nativity scenes, santas, candles, pooh bears. This year I saw hardly any. People used to have those 5-candle lights in every window of their house. This year, hardly any. A few seasons back, everyone had icicle lights. So much so that people fought over them in the stores. This year, no so many. Then everyone had the meshy white reindeers and the projectors that put lighted images on their houses. This year, everybody and their cousins had the huge inflatable things. Where will they be next year? Do people pack them away never to be seen again. Do people have so much disposable income that they just chuck this stuff into landfills? Sometimes I see decorations at garage sales, but not that much. Hmm, just wondering.

I can't use our dishwasher right now. The breaker for the dishwasher kept tripping. Marcus unhooked it and pulled it out. It seems that when I moved the fridge to work on the tiles, I pulled the icemaker tube loose and caused some water damage under the dishwasher. So, it's possible that there may be a major problem under there, or maybe the breaker needs to be replaced. Either way, we have to wait until Marcus can get an electrician out to look at it (Saturday?). So, hand washing it is for the week. Just to see what it would cost, Marcus and I went to Sears to look at the prices of new dishwashers. Ours is really low end and kind of sucks. He really wants to get the one model that has a built-in disposal and all these fancy racks. I think the price was about $700. Yeah, right. Like we're going to have an expensive dishwasher while living in a mobile home park. Oh, yeah. There was also a dead mouse under there. We haven't had a mouse problem in several years. Ewwwww.

Marcus' birthday is tomorrow. Everyone should go here and wish him a happy birthday.

Guess I better go get ready for school.

I Want To Be A Painter

Current mood: bearmood — sad melancholy
I was browsing around Meininger Art Supply today for stuff I need for my class. I wish I money to buy paints and an easel and had a place where I could just get totally messy and not care if I dripped paint on me and on the floor. I mean, I have my craft room, but it has carpet and not a whole lot of room to fling paint around. There is also no room for an easel.

I wish I could take a leave of absence from school again. The class I'm currently taking involves putting a portfolio together. Unfortunately, that takes money. Lots of money. I don't happen to have any. I spent $70 alone yesterday and today (all I can spare at the moment). That only began to put a dent in what I need to spend. I asked for 5 days this week at work to make as much money as possible, but I guess since everyone is back from holiday vacations, it isn't to be. That totally sucks. I still need to buy or build a portfolio case, get some good paper, get ink for my printer and pay to have some of the pieces professionally printed. I really don't see how this is going to happen. What really sucks is we haven't begun anything. I was really looking forward to this class being at this time because we had the two week break to work on stuff. Well, the teacher missed the first two classes and then we were given the supply list in the third class. I could've worked on tweaking some of my work, but I worked alot over the break and didn't really have time. Oh, well. I'll have time this week since I won't be working as much. *sigh*

Well, I guess I'd better get to bed.

Swoon

I'm sitting here watching Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Even as a crazy pirate, Johnny Depp is damn dreamy. That Orlando Bloom guy (from Lord of the Rings) is pretty darn good looking, too.

That’s a Big Snake

I heard this on the radio when I was driving around last night and wanted to post about it: Apparently, Indonesia now has the largest snake in captivity. It's a reticulated python. The thing is 49 feet long and weighs almost 1,000 pounds. It's capable of eating a human, but actually eats dogs. Wow.

Success

Current mood: bearmood — tired sleepy
So, my first ever fondue party was a success. The only thing that could've made it better would have been if I didn't have to work and could've prepared things at my leisure instead of at a frantic pace when I got home at 8:30. Anyway, I served steak, chicken and shrimp to fondue in hot oil, I had swiss cheese fondue with bread and chocolate fondue with a variety of fruits and pound cake. Yummay!!! Chris brought his salsa concoction (quite tasty) and chips. Dave arrived at 11:45 (he had to work 'til 11) with the champagne so we could toast in the new year.

Someday I'll have a coffee table that everyone can sit closer around and it will work better, I think. Anyhoo, I sat and talked with Dave until 4 am, then I went to bed. Now I get to go back to work. Yay.
