Goodbye, CompUSA

Marcus just alerted me to an article on ArsTechnica that CompUSA will sell or close its remaining stores after the holiday season. I have mixed feelings about it as I've always had a love/hate relationship with that particular retailer.

It is part of Marcus' and my ritual, though, to browse through the aisles of Comp at least every other weekend. It's just a quick jaunt up the street if we need an ink cartridge or something. The next closest computer retailer is Microcenter, but it's just a bit too far of a drive to just window shop. It's looking like the majority of our computer shopping in the future will take place online if it can't be purchased at The Apple Store.

They're saying that consumers will be able to find "attractive holiday bargains" as they begin to sell off the assets. I guess we'll see.

Madness

When are we in the United States going to wake up? First we're held hostage by the Middle East because of our dependence on oil and now we put our health at risk buying cheap goods from China.

First we had the pet deaths and subsequent pet food recalls because of tainted grain purchased from China. Then we have umpteen recalls of children's toys due to lead in the paint. I heard a story this morning that pets are getting sick due to lead poisoning from toys made in China. Now, beads are being recalled because a chemical reaction caused when a child chews on them releases the date-rape drug GHB. This is insanity.

In other news, the dollar has lost even more value.

Wake up, people.

Owen Wilson Suicide Attempt

I haven't been very current events savvy lately. I only just read that Owen Wilson may have attempted suicide last week. How tragically sad. I hope he gets help. I love him as an actor.

UnFrickenBelievable

Now I've heard everything. Bank of America is offering credit cards to illegals. Oooo, but they have to pay a higher interest rate. Yeah. that makes it right. Are these people high? What is the point of citizenship anymore? I'm so pissed about this kind of crap that my head is going to explode.

Ubbi Dubbi Translator

While surfing around this morning, I came across an article that a former Zoom actor, Jared Nathan, had died. I used to watch the original Zoom from the 70s all the time. This particular actor did one season when they revived the show in the late 90s. He was only only 21 and a student at Juliard in New York. How sad. When I went to his site to read a little about him, he mentioned the Ubbi Dubbi Translator. I loved the Ubbi Dubbi segments, but I could never speak it.
