Blogathon 2007 Signups Underway

Blogathon 2007 LogoThe official site for Blogathon 2007 opened up for registrations today.

It's hard to believe that in a little over three short weeks, I'll be participating again. I finally buckled down and decided to go with the same charity as last year, Livesrong: The Lance Armstrong Foundation. Last year we raised $148.50 and I'd like to top $500 this year. I signed up rather late last year. I didn't decide to participate until after I got laid off. I've definitely got more time to prepare this year. If you're curious about last year's posts, you can read the 2006 Domestic Geek Blogathon Archive.

This year, I'll be giving a Livestrong wristband to anyone that pledges $10 or more and I'd like to do a contest of some sort and have a bigger prize. Hmmm...we'll have to see about that. Any ideas for what I could do would be greatly appreciated!

Anyway, I'll have the pledge link up in the sidebar in a couple of days, but you can go Sponsor Me now through this link.

It's on, baby!

Blogathon is Coming

It dawned on me a couple of days ago that Blogathon 2007 will be here before I know it. The date this year is July 28th. They've already reopened the forums, so I'll be hanging out over there really soon. Unlike last year, where I decided to do it at the last minute after losing my job, I'm actually going to promote it and have a plan in place. They mentioned possibly having the ability to blog for multiple charities (I'd really like to do the Denver Dumb Friend's League in addition to Livestrong), so I hope that's the case.

Easy Button

Recently, Staples put one of their office supply stores on Colorado Blvd. here in Denver. I'm not sure when exactly, but I happened to see it driving home one day. I was looking for a couple of things related to the craft room clean-up and decided to stop in and see what they had.

Well, they didn't have what I was looking for, but on my way out I saw a bin with Easy Buttons. If you've ever seen one of their commercials on television, you know what that is. Anyway, I didn't stop to look at them, but when I checked their web site just now, it turns out they donate $1 of every purchase on those to the Boys & Girls Club of America. That's so cool! I may end up going back later to get one.

The Ultimate Gift

I don't like going to the theaters to see movies, but there is one being released on March 9th that I'm very interested to see. It's called The Ultimate Gift and it's based on the book of the same name by author Jim Stovall. The book has been incorporated in school curricula and has even spawned a teen initiative called "Show of Hands." The book's message is:

"The only way you can truly get more out of life for yourself is to give part of yourself away.???

The movie stars Academy Award nominee Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine), James Garner, Ali Hillis, Drew Fuller and Brian Dennehy. This is the official site of the movie "The Ultimate Gift" and the grass-roots movement its starting to help charities and give to others. During the opening weekend March9–11th, dubbed "The Weekend of Giving," $1.00 of your ticket price can be donated to a charity of your choice. Check out the official site for details. Of the 300 pre-screenings of the movie, they have already raised over $5 million in donations for various non-profit charities.

After watching the trailer on the site, I'm definitely going to go see this. I've made giving more of myself to charity one of my goals, so this is definitely as easy way to give of myself. I think I'll pop over to the bookstore tomorrow and check out the book before I see the movie.

Blogathon: The Movie

This is great! Why a great keepsake of the event. Part of me wishes I had one, but then again...

I really like that song they used—Insomnia by Feeder. Not on iTunes, Dammit! Must find that song.
