So, how off am I this week? I just went to the TT site to see if comments had opened up yet and saw 288 comments. D'oh, it's Thursday night, not Wednesday. So, I'm later than I wanted to be this week. Here we go:
Thirteen Observations About Being (Partially) Employed Again
- My Sleep Schedule Is Whacked - You can't stay up until midnight on the PPP forums and function early in the morning.
- Traffic - I really hate Denver's traffic problem. It shouldn't take 40 minutes to get to where I'm working.
- I'm Out of Shape - Sitting on my butt for 4 months surfing the computer and looking for jobs has left some of my muscles a little weak from under use.
- My Clothes Suck - Fortunately, this place allows jeans, tennis shoes and a collared shirt. I only have one pair of jeans that fit.
- I Hate Feeling Stupid - I know it's just the training phase, but the control freak in me hates having to ask for help.
- Boyers Coffee Bad - This place has Boyers brought in and it's yucky. Bad heartburn and an aftertaste that sticks with you the rest of the day. At least I'll drink more water this way.
- Workplace Snobs - You know the type...every workplace has them. They've been there forever so they're above menial labor, even if it really needs to get done.
- Seeing Marcus at Work is Cool - Isn't it a little sappy, but still neat, that after 14 years my spirit lifts and my heart beats a little faster when I get a glimpse of him?
- My PVR is Full - I'm way behind on my TV watching after only a week.
- Scheduling Showers - It's been a looooooong time since Marcus and I had even remotely close work schedules. I'm going to have to shower at night so that he'll have hot water and my hair can dry before work.
- Surfing Withdrawl - It's weird to not be able to just look up whatever I'm thinking about at the particular moment. Even at my old jobs, I surfed a lot and could IM with anybody while working. I can't do that now. I started making myself notes of stuff to do online after work.
- Feeling Useful - This has got to be the suckiest part of unemployment. I felt so useless. Even though I didn't catch on to everything here in my first week, at least I'm contributing something.
- Steady Income - Tomorrow I get a small paycheck and after that they'll be regular.

See, there really is a blog for everything out there.
Chewing Pencils is a group blog that offers advice and tips for cartoonists that want to turn their hobby into a profession. They recently
had a Christmas Cartoon contest where the strip had to contain the word blog. The winner was
Ming from Artmaker. He has graciously offered up the comic for use on our own blogs:
Go check out some of the
other winners.

Two weeks from now, a lot of us Americans are going to be busily preparing our yearly turkey feast. I was poking around the Internet looking for new recipes to try and I came across a site with the most wonderful
Thanksgiving Treats. I would love to serve this
Brandy Pumpkin cake. It sounds so yummy:
It's a rich blend of pumpkin, cream cheese, walnuts, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves that has been gathered together and then soaked in brandy to give this decadent dessert a spirited richness with spicy undertones. And talk about moist, you can eat an entire piece without ever having to reach for a glass of milk.
I probably can't swing one in time for the big feast this year, but I'd love to get one of these
Spirited Eggnog cakes spiked with rum for Christmas.

You are The Hermit
Prudence, Caution, Deliberation.
The Hermit points to all things hidden, such as knowledge and inspiration, hidden enemies. The illumination is from within, and retirement from participation in current events.
The Hermit is a card of introspection, analysis and, well, virginity. You do not desire to socialize; the card indicates, instead, a desire for peace and solitude. You prefer to take the time to think, organize, ruminate, take stock. There may be feelings of frustration and discontent but these feelings eventually lead to enlightenment, illumination, clarity.
The Hermit represents a wise, inspirational person, friend, teacher, therapist. This a person who can shine a light on things that were previously mysterious and confusing.
What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

I've put in two days of work at the new job. I hope I get to be full time soon! The sooner that happens, the quicker I'll get through 90 days until FULL BENEFITS, paid holidays and all of that other good stuff that comes with working for a decent company! I was a little down this morning. One, because there was nothing to post about from PPP. I really enjoy checking out the sites in the opportunities and then giving my humble opinion. I also really need cash coming in. Two, because of that email I got yesterday about the job. I had really wanted to work there and if I had been hired four months ago when I interviewed, I wouldn't have had this whole unemployment mess. *sigh* Oh, well. I guess I needed the depth to which I sank to teach me some valuable lessons. Finally, three, I need to get more sleep. I can't let myself stay up until midnight hanging out in the PPP forums.
On a totally different note, I'm sure everyone has seen the Pepto Bismol commercial with all the office employees dancing to the song that goes, "Naseau, Heartburn, Indigestion, Upset Stomach, Diahrrea." Well, there's a new one for Pepto MAX that has Paul Bunyon, Godzilla, a Space guy, etc. dancing. Really freaky. I had to stop fast-forwarding and go back to make sure I seen what I had thought I had seen.
