Birthday Haul

Current mood: bearmood — full full
All in all, not a bad birthday this year. I raked in $150 towards my camera so far. Now I just need to figure out which one to get. Marcus and I went to the Apple Store to look and I'm more confused than ever. Any suggestions on what I should be looking for in a digital camera? I need something a little better than the cheapest you can get, but I don't know enough about photography for the fancy, schmancy ones. There was a Nikon for $999 that I would've loved to have, but it's really too much camera for me. I'd have to take a class or something!

My present I got for myself came in the mail today. I've been looking for this little figurine forever since I saw it in the back of an old cross stitch magazine. It's a Cherished Teddies titled "Justine and Janice." I also got another Cherished Teddies figurine in the auction. Can you believe I got them both on eBay for $1.36? Whoo Hoo!!! I'm sure the seller wasn't happy for what they went for, but that's the risk you take when you start the bidding at $.99. The Justine/Janice one usually goes for $10-12. Granted, they don't have boxes or papers and the Justine/Janice one was extremely dusty, but I wanted it for my craft room. I'm not a collector.

Marcus took me to Applebee's tonight for dinner. We went with Mike & Nina. Never in my life have I ever had a bunch of waitstaff sing to me on my birthday, so I asked Marcus to tell our server that it was my birthday for the express purpose of getting a song. Our waitress sucked and while she did remember to send me a free brownie (which I really could care less whether I got or not), she put "no singing requested" on the ticket. Boooooo. I think she just didn't want to sing. Loser. Party pooper. Spoilsport. The server that brought the brownie was acting like she was going to get singers, but it never happened. Oh, well. She also didn't put our orders on separate checks as we requested, she was really bad about refills (she disappeared with Marcus' glass and totally forgot to bring him another), etc. Our tip reflected our displeasure with her.

Well, I guess I should get to bed. I've spent way too much time on the computer today and my neck and back are really starting to scream about it. I need to get into work early so my birthday weekend is not spoiled by having to see my @ssh*le manager. G'night.

Belated Birthday Gathering

We celebrated Marcus' 31st birthday today. His birthday was actually on the 6th and since he refused to have the party prior to his birthday ("Why do I want to celebrate getting old before my birthday?"), we had it today. Mike, Nina, Dave, Marcus and I started out at Chipotle for one of Marcus' favorite foods, burritos. Then it was back to our house for gifts and ice cream cake. Yum. Marcus received a Silver Nissan 350z Zip Zap from Mike/Nina and they played with their cars for over six hours. In the meantime, Nina and I watched Finding Nemo, The Great Mouse Detective, Average Joe, Saturday Night Live and Law & Order: SVU.

I got Marcus a George Foreman Baby George Rotisserie, so I guess Marcus is making dinner tomorrow. Whoohooo!

I pulled a bonehead move today. When I got home from work, I was a little hungry and Marcus said that we were going to start birthday stuff between 3 and 4, so I start a pot of water to hard-boil some eggs. Marcus decided to take a nap and I took off to get his present. I stopped at King Soopers to get some soda and remembered that I left the stove on. I had to call Marcus and wake him up so he could turn the stove off. Stupid!

Anyway, I need to work in the morning, so I'd better get off to bed.

Success

Current mood: bearmood — tired sleepy
So, my first ever fondue party was a success. The only thing that could've made it better would have been if I didn't have to work and could've prepared things at my leisure instead of at a frantic pace when I got home at 8:30. Anyway, I served steak, chicken and shrimp to fondue in hot oil, I had swiss cheese fondue with bread and chocolate fondue with a variety of fruits and pound cake. Yummay!!! Chris brought his salsa concoction (quite tasty) and chips. Dave arrived at 11:45 (he had to work 'til 11) with the champagne so we could toast in the new year.

Someday I'll have a coffee table that everyone can sit closer around and it will work better, I think. Anyhoo, I sat and talked with Dave until 4 am, then I went to bed. Now I get to go back to work. Yay.
