Learning More at Work

Last week I finally got enough courage up to talk to my supervisor about getting trained to become a Prepress Operator (I'm a Preflight Technician now). Basically, they get to do the cool stuff — fixing the files, setting them up in the imposition software, etc. I had already taken the online class that taught the basics of using the imposition software and I did quite well. Well, he agreed that it was time that I start learning and he knows that I'm a fast learner. Things kept coming up last week that kept me from being able to start training, but today I finally got to sit down with an operator and start going over the basics. Yay! The guys I work with on first shift are extremely helpful and really nice, so I know I'll get the hang of it all really soon.

Mary Engelbreit Store

A few years ago, I really started to become a Mary Engelbreit fan. She does such wonderful, colorful illustrations. I found out that she had a retail store and vowed that one day I would visit it. Well, for some reason, I had it in my head that it was was up North somewhere. Well, I was looking at her site yesterday trying to get inspiration for a project I'm working on and I found out her store is in the Galleria Mall in St. Louis, MO. The very same mall Marcus and I went to the Apple Store in when we spent a few days in St. Louis three years ago. D'oh! We even strolled around the mall for a bit, but didn't make it to the section that had the ME store. Argh! So close. Marcus promised that on the next trip to Tennessee to visit his folks, we can stay in St. Louis again so that I can go to that store.

New Family Member

Chip the Drawing MannequinBlogosphere, meet Chip. Chip, meet the Blogosphere. (Get it? Chip. Chip off the block. Wood chip. LOL! I crack myself up.)

OK, he's not really a family member, but he is a new addition to the household. I've always wanted one of these wooden drawing mannequins (we used to use them at school), so yesterday I splurged the $10 bucks and got him. Besides being a great decorative accent for my craft room (yes, it is still clean!), he's useful, as well. I want to get back into illustrating and drawing.

Guys, quit reading now if girl stuff grosses you out. Just skip to the next paragraph.
Do any of my women readers get constipated for the first couple of days of your period? No matter what I do, I always get it. I'm not sure if is from the same hormone that causes the cramps or what, but it is majorly annoying. I'm having a particularly bad one this week, to boot. I was in so much pain yesterday that I thought I was going to pass out. I'm also retaining a LOT of fluid. Ick. Not cool.

Man, I haven't done a Thursday Thirteen in three weeks. I've got subjects, I just can't seem to get the motivation to post.

I had a whole bunch of stuff I wanted to say and now I'm drawing a complete blank. *sigh* I guess it'll have to wait until another time.

Ten on Tuesday No. 8

Ten on Tuesday

OK, this one was tough because I already did the "5 Things Meme" awhile back and didn't want to duplicate what I wrote there.

Ten Things Most People Don't Know About Me

  1. My first crush was on Eric Faulkner from the Bay City Rollers.
  2. I want to see a ghost.
  3. I love puzzles: math equations, logic problems, jigsaws. I love to use the old brain.
  4. I don't believe in gods. I've tried to believe and wished I could, but I don't. I'm not an atheist, though, more of an agnostic, I guess.
  5. I have a hard time connecting with people, especially women.
  6. I can't stand the smell of rum (drinking game gone bad in college — I suck at quarters).
  7. I have an extremely low tolerance for rudeness and stupidity.
  8. I'm a night owl. I really hate trying to fit into a "normal" routine.
  9. I have a lot of disturbing, reoccurring dreams.
  10. I'm 40 and still don't know what I want to do with my life.
